Nintendo Brings Back World Championships For E3 2015

For last year's E3, Nintendo held an outstanding Digital Event for all of their announcements, and then they held a Super Smash Bros. tournament.  This year, they are once again having a Digital Event, but they are going to 1-Up themselves by bringing back the Nintendo World Championships.

I am excited for the Digital Event this year, because I'm expecting it to be bigger and better than last year's!

You can read Nintendo's full announcement below.

Nintendo Direct April 1, 2015 - Serious Business

Yes, Nintendo picked April Fool's Day to give us a new Nintendo Direct video, but they have promised that they aren't joking around.  The Direct is slated to start at 6 PM EST, and you will be able to watch the stream (or read my live blogging of the stream if you can not watch it) right here.

The live blog of the Direct will be below.  I'm guessing we will get some information on the second DLC package for Mario Kart 8, some amiibo news, a look at Xenoblade Chronicles (it comes out next week, after all), and some news on Xenoblade Chronicles X.

All Donkey Kong Country & Land Games Headed to Nintendo eShop

Nintendo of Europe sent out a very interesting tweet regarding Donkey Kong Country Weeks, an upcoming sale period where you can save on digital copies of Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D and Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze.  All you need to do to save is buy some other Donkey Kong games that are coming to the eShop.

Click to embiggen.

Take a close look at the bottom part of those images.  Those are the six Donkey Kong games released by Nintendo and Rare on the SNES and Game Boy.  Starting this Thursday (in Europe, at least), these classic titles will start showing up on the Virtual Console for the Wii U and 3DS.

There has been no word on a NA release as of yet, but we will keep you updated if that changes.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2 Video Game - First Look

This one seems like it is going to be... interesting.  I like the fact that they going to give us a story where Kraven the Hunter is teaching Spider-Man, because it should force Peter to make some tough decisions.  Hopefully, we the players will get to make those decisions to give them some more weight.  I mean, we know Spidey would choose to do the right thing, but would you?

Make sure to click the image below to check out the official images released alongside the trailer!

Click the image to launch the gallery.
The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be available this Spring on PC, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, Wii U, and 3DS.

Nintendo Direct Nov. 13: The Legend of Zelda Edition

Today's Nintendo Direct has just wrapped up, and we got some great announcements out of this one.

It also started out goofier than ever, with an elevator ride that was interrupted by Reggie.

You can watch the video below, or if you can't watch it right now, you can read my summary.

Nintendo Discontinues SpotPass for Swapnote

Nintendo Ends Swapnote

Well folks, I hope you didn't enjoy using Swapnote too much, because you will be very disappointed today when you check for new notes.  Effective as of last night the SpotPass feature for Swapnote, which allowed you to send notes online to anyone on your friend list, was shut down.

Why you ask?  Dicks.  Lots of dicks.  Don't take my word for it though, here is the official announcement:

Nintendo 2DS: Nintendo Being Nintendo

That is not a typo.  That is the name of the latest redesign of the Nintendo 3DS.  The video below will explain.

So, this is what they have been spending their time on.  As a gamer, I think it is asinine.  As a parent, however, I like it, and I will tell you exactly why.

Starship Damrey From Level-5's Guild02 Out Today In Europe

Starship Damrey

Just a reminder that Starship Damrey, the first of the Guild02 games being released outside of Japan, is available today in Europe, and will be out May 16 in the US.

While I'm not sure about Keiji Inafune's Bugs vs. Tanks!, I am very excited about Attack of the Friday Monsters! A Tokyo Tale and the aforementioned Starship Damrey. You can see the trailer for the three after the jump.

Also, don't forget that the Guild01 games are currently on sale through May 30.

Legend of Zelda: Oracle Games Coming to 3DS

of Zelda Oracle of Ages and Seasons Coming to 3DS Virtual Console

Earlier this morning, Nintendo had another Nintendo Direct presentation.  This one focused on Japan and 3DS titles from third party publishers.  During the video, Nintendo announced that The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages and Oracle of Seasons will be coming to the 3DS Virtual Console next week.

And next month, the games will be sold in a bundle for four dollars cheaper.  I'm really hoping these both come to the US soon, and also that I have the patience to wait to see if we get the same bundle deal.

Skylanders SWAP Force Announced - Now With Jumping

Skylanders SWAP Force Magna Charge

Activision announced the newest game in the Skylanders franchise: Skylanders SWAP Force.  The game introduces two new features.  The first allows you to swap heads and bodies on the figures to make whatever configuration you want.  The other news it bigger to me though: You will now be able to jump in the console versions of the games!  That was one of the reasons I enjoyed the 3DS versions of the previous games more than the console versions.  The 3DS games felt more like the old school Spyro games.  They had a nice platforming element that the console versions.

And on the plus side, they are only adding sixteen characters and not another forty five.  So, there's that.  Read the press release after the jump.

Project X Zone Coming to the United States!

Project X Zone Coming to North America

Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day here in the states, and in the spirit of unity, it has been announced that the awesome looking 3DS title Project X Zone will be getting a release in North America, Australia, Latin America, and Europe.

If you are unfamiliar with this title, it is a turn-based strategy and fighting game smooshed together with over two hundred characters from over twenty nine game series released by three different companies.  So, if you've ever wanted to play a game with characters from .hack, Resident Evil, and Valkyria Chronicles, this is something you might want to look into.

Project X Zone will be released this summer.

Nintendo 3DS Game of the Year

Just like with the Wii U GOTY, I am awarding the honor to both a retail title and an eShop title.  And for the retail title, I also included Nintendo DS titles, because I can't entirely discount my favorite system of all time.  I had a lot to choose from, but I had a clear winner.  The 3DS eShop GOTY, however, was harder to choose.

Let's get right to the winners!

Pokémon X & Y Coming to 3DS in October

Pokémon X and Y for the Nintendo 3DS

What a thing to wake up to!  I knew Nintendo had a Pokémon related Nintendo Direct today, but they had said it was small.  I did not expect it to be the announcement of the first proper Pokémon game for the Nintendo 3DS.  Pokémon X and Pokémon Y were revealed with some gameplay footage this morning, but we also got a release time.  The game will be out worldwide in October!  That means no waiting months after Japan gets the game, and that is a good thing.  You can watch the full Nintendo Pokémon Direct video after the jump.

Nintendo Download - Nov. 15

Nintendo has released the last bit of downloadable goodness before the Wii U arrives on Sunday.  Well, that isn't technically true.  One of the titles doesn't come out until Wii U launch day.  That slightly delayed title is the downloadable version of Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.  There are three other downloadable versions of retail games that came out today.  Along with those, we got one eShop title, and two new DSiWare titles.  No big surprise that there aren't any new releases for the Wii this week.  Check out the list after the jump.

First Impressions: Scribblenauts Unlimited (3DS)

Scribblenauts Unlimited

Scribblenauts is a game series that started a few years ago on the Nintendo DS.  The game allowed you to input a word and have the object spawn.  The gameplay was really good, even if it was also really flawed (the controls were terrible and you could beat nearly every level the exact same way).  The second game, Super Scribblenauts was then released on the DS, and it fixed all of the issues with the first game.  That's not all it did though; it also brought with it the ability to use adjectives.  So now you could spawn a Gigantic Purple Spotted Gentlemanly Cthulhu.  In fact, Super Scribblenauts was one of only two DS games that I reviewed and gave a ten out of ten.

Now Scribblenauts Unlimited is here for the Nintendo 3DS, Wii U, and PC.  In the Wii U and PC versions, you have the ability to create any object that you want.  Sadly, that doesn't seem to be available in the 3DS version.  While that is a disappointment, This game is quickly becoming one of my favorite games for the 3DS.

Nintendo Download - Nov. 8

Paper Mario: Sticker Star 3DS

Compared to last week, Nintendo's offerings are a bit better. I'm still torn on where to count Freakyforms Deluxe and Paper Mario: Sticker Star though, because they are released on Sunday.  I think we have to say that Freakyforms Deluxe was released this week, and Paper Mario: Sticker Star is released next week.  That's okay though, because that just means there is at least one good game coming out next week.  Even though it is included in this week's download list.  It's so confusing.

Aside from the digital versions of retail releases, we also got a NEO-GEO game on the Wii Virtual Console this week!  Nothing else for the Wii though.  On the DSi/3DS side of things, we got the crazy priced Pokedex 3D Pro ($15!!!!), four other new releases today, plus a demo of Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion.  And, of course, Paper Mario: Sticker Star is out on Sunday.  Hit the jump for the full list!
