3 New NES Games & One Special Edition Added to Nintendo Switch Online

Today gave us the first update to the Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online (that name is ridiculous...let's just stick with NESflix), and three games were added to the service.  There was also a bit of a surprise.

Nintendo had previously announced NES Open, Solomon's Key, and Super Dodge Ball as the titles that were to be added this month, but they also snuck in what they are calling a Special version of The Legend of Zelda.

As you can see below, the Special LoZ kind of just drops you into the game with some equipment you wouldn't normally start out with.

This is basically a New Game Plus save file.  They start you out with all kinds of goodies.

And yes, that Special ribbon hangs out in the corner there the whole time.

This is a good way for people who might find this game too difficult by starting out with nothing.  Nintendo also announced that more Special versions of games are coming in the future.  I am definitely interested to see what is coming next month along with Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee.  If I had to guess, I would say a Special version of Metroid is in the works.

Nintendo Spotlight E3 2017: Predictions & Live Stream

After what many are calling lackluster conferences by both Microsoft and Sony, Nintendo is getting the chance to really shine with their now annual E3 Spotlight.  Will they show us a bunch of unannounced games, or will they just show us already announced titles?  Will we get release dates for games like Super Mario Odyssey and Xenoblade Chronicles 2?  What games will be pushed back?  We will find out in less than an hour, at 12:00 PM EST!

Personally, this is what I think will happen and what I would love to see (but probably won't happen):

New Footage From The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild

Earlier tonight, Nintendo decided to grace us with some new footage of the insanely anticipated game The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild.  One of these videos was a trailer where we caught a glimpse at a village with people in it, some bird people, and someone that is probably Princess Zelda herself.  It was definitely nice to see that there are some people left after whatever tragedy left most of Hyrule in ruins.

There is also some other cool footage shown.  I'm just going to let you watch it for yourself.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask Coming to Nintendo 3DS Next Spring

It's happening!

So many people have been waiting for this, myself included.  I've never played this game before, mostly due to not having a Nintendo 64, but now I get my chance!

Mario Kart 8 DLC Announced: Link, F-Zero, Excitebike, And Animal Crossing!

Shortly after waking up this morning, I turned on the Wii U to download the Mario Kart 8 patch that dropped today.  The patch was supposed to bring online stabilization, a mini-map for the TV screen (as opposed to just the GamePad), and three Mercedes-Benz cars.  It ended up bringing so much more along with it.

Yes, that is indeed Link, Isabelle, and a Villager from Animal Crossing.  Those are the two announced DLC packs for Mario Kart 8.  They aren't just bringing a few new characters along for the ride though.

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition Free Until Feb. 2

The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition

Did you buy your Nintendo 3DS any time after February 20, 2012?  If so, you missed out on a good freebie: The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Anniversary Edition.  The game was released as free DSiWare (and also through the eShop) for the twenty-fifth anniversary of The Legend of Zelda.  And on February 21, the day after the anniversary year had ended, the game was no longer available.

Gamers have since been angry with the fact that Nintendo has not made the title available for purchase.  And who can blame them?  They were missing out on a fun multiplayer Zelda game.

Now, if you are one of those people who have been longing to get a copy of the game, your wait is over.  Nintendo has re-released the game onto the eShop, and it is free of charge until February 2.  Better hurry and download it while you can, because we have no idea if you will ever get the chance to acquire this game again.

Thanks to Fanceypants for pointing this one out to us!

Nintendo Direct Nov. 13: The Legend of Zelda Edition

Today's Nintendo Direct has just wrapped up, and we got some great announcements out of this one.

It also started out goofier than ever, with an elevator ride that was interrupted by Reggie.

You can watch the video below, or if you can't watch it right now, you can read my summary.

Nintendo Direct: E3 2013 - Mega Man Edition

If you missed this morning's Nintendo E3 Direct, you can watch the full thing right here.

If you don't have forty minutes to kill, here are the highlights: Mega Man in Smash Bros., Wind Waker HD in October, Super Mario 3D World on Wii U this Fall, and Mario Kart 8 has anti-gravity.

Nothing majorly surprising outside of Mega Man, but everything they showed looked good.

How Nintendo Could Thrive Without EA on the Wii U

Mario Sports Mix

The latest rumors floating around are telling us that EA has dropped support for the Nintendo Wii U to focus on the PlayStation 4 and NextBox.  For me, this is not a big deal.  There aren't many games from EA I am ever interested in.  In fact, the only three titles from EA that I ever look forward to are Madden, NHL, and Tiger Woods.  So, while it stinks that I will not be getting any more of those games in the foreseeable future, it actually gave me a great idea for how Nintendo could not only survive this easily, but actually turn it into something great.

I can give you the solution in three words: Nintendo Sports League.

Nintendo Direct 4/17 - EARTHBOUND, Bravely Default, & New Zelda Announced

Couldn't have said it any better myself, Nintendo!  Even though this was mainly a 3DS centered Nintendo Direct, the news broke that Wii U owners throughout NA and EU can stop their complaining on Miiverse, because Earthbound will finally be heading to the Wii U Virtual Console this year.  The Virtual Console itself will be available next week, included with the system update.

Earthbound on the VC isn't even the biggest news from this Nintendo Direct.  We now know that Bravely Default will be flying over to NA sometime next year.  That is awesome news, but 2014 is a long wait. The two Oracle games from The Legend of Zelda will be available on the 3DS eShop on May 30.  That is some great Zelda news, however, the biggest news is the announced sequel for The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past.  That news actually made me forget about this ear infection nonsense for a few minutes.

A bunch more was announced, like the new 3DS Mario Party, and the Animal Crossing 3DS XL bundle coming to NA, and EU, but you can catch the rest of the info in the video!

Valentine's Day Nintendo Direct: The Year of Luigi

With today's Nintendo Direct, 2013 became the Year of Luigi!  We got a great look at Luigi's Mansion, as well as our first looks at Mario & Luigi RPG: Dream Team, a new Mario Golf, and New Super Luigi U (DLC for NSMB U that changes the entire game!).  But wait, there's more! Seriously, there was an overload of information.

We finally got a release date for Animal Crossing New Leaf: June 9.  We got information about Lego City Undercover, Need for Speed Most Wanted, Mario & Donkey Kong: Minis on the Move, Zen Pinball 2, Runner 2, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, and Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D.

We also got information on a sale on downloadable titles on the 3DS eShop, a new Zombi U Wii U bundle, and a free game promotion when you buy a 3DS XL and Luigi's Mansion or Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.  And there is still more beyond that.

I honestly don't remember everything that was shown off, but that's mostly because my brain is still pumped about Animal Crossing and the Mario Golf announcement.  Just watch it.  I don't know how they keep making these things so good.
