Nintendo Pokémon Direct: Short And Not So Sweet

Nintendo gave us a Pokémon-themed Direct today, and, well, it was a little bit bleh.

Only three things were announced, and one of them is the biggest cash grab I have ever seen.

Up first: Pokkén Tournament DX for the Nintendo Switch.  Much like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe before it, this is a port of the Wii U title with a few new things added.  For Pokkén, the additions are five new fighters and a 3-on-3 Team Battle.

At the end of the trailer for Pokkén, they show a couple kids sitting in the background playing on their 3DS systems.  It zooms in to show them playing Pokémon Sun and Moon, only it isn't.  They are actually playing Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.

Yes, these are the next new Pokémon games being released for the 3DS.   They feature alternate stories from Sun and Moon, and some new Pokémon forms or something.

The final announcement is Pokémon Gold and Silver on the 3DS Virtual Console on September 22.

And that was it.

Yawn. 

Nintendo Direct March 3: Hoping Star Fox Isn't Delayed Edition

At 5:00 PM EST, There is going to be a new Nintendo Direct.  This one comes hot on the heels of last week's Pokémon-themed Nintendo Direct, and was quite the surprise announcement.  Apparently, this Direct will focus on Wii U and 3DS games that are going to be released between now and this summer.

• Star Fox Zero (Which hopefully won't be for a delay)

Pokémon X & Y Coming to 3DS in October

What a thing to wake up to!  I knew Nintendo had a Pokémon related Nintendo Direct today, but they had said it was small.  I did not expect it to be the announcement of the first proper Pokémon game for the Nintendo 3DS.  Pokémon X and Pokémon Y were revealed with some gameplay footage this morning, but we also got a release time.  The game will be out worldwide in October!  That means no waiting months after Japan gets the game, and that is a good thing.  You can watch the full Nintendo Pokémon Direct video after the jump.
