Bottom Shelf Mixology: Moon In Retrograde

Welcome to The Bottom Shelf™!  We have racked our brains (and our livers) to come up with special "bottom shelf" versions of popular drinks, and some original creations that range from "oh, that might be interesting" to "that sounds absolutely disgusting".  

Moon In Retrograde (Blue Moon)

• 1 1/4 oz Five O'Clock Gin
• 1/2 oz Blue Curacao 
• 1 1/2 oz Blue Moon ice cream (melted)
• 3 oz syrup from store brand canned pineapple 
• Ice

Stir your pineapple syrup and melted ice cream together in your glass.  Add the gin and curacao to your shaker with some ice and gently shake for seven seconds.

Strain from the shaker into the glass and stir together until well mixed.

You should probably drink these less than once in a blue moon.

Review: Chips Ahoy Root Beer Float Cookies

I was in the store earlier to pick up some milk and bacon, and I saw something that both horrified and intrigued me.

Yes, Nabisco apparently wants you to think that they have moved their bakery to Colorado.  First we get Cookie Dough and Marshmallow Crispy Oreos, and now cookies that taste like root beer.  How else would you come up with this idea?  "Dude, we should, like, make cookies that taste like root beer."

Now, to be fair to Nabisco, Root Beer Float is just one flavor in a new series of four flavors under the Ice Cream Creations banner.  The other three sounded good.  There is Mint Chocolate Chip, Dulce De Leche, and Chocolate Mocha (or something like that, I don't remember for sure).  Since those sounded pretty normal, I didn't really have much interest in them.

This strange flavor was irresistible to me.  I couldn't help myself.  I think I have a disease.

HMM '13: Once Bitten

It's October!  The doorway to not only the start of the greatest food season (early October to Christmas), but also to sexy nurses, zombies, and grown men dressing up like ponies.  That also means it is time once again for Halloween Movie Madness!  This year, I'll be taking a look back at the movies of my youth.  Every movie this year was released before I turned eighteen.  These are the Halloween movies that shaped me into the man I am today.  Some of them are scary.  Some are funny.  Some are fantastical.  Some are just weird.  And not all of them are good.  But to me, they are all Halloween movies.  Now, stand back, for your own safety! 

Once Bitten

If you haven't been able to tell yet, my parents didn't care what I watched when I was a kid.  It didn't matter if it was scary, gory, or sexy, they didn't care.  If they did, I probably wouldn't have seen Once Bitten when I did.  I mean, let's face it, you don't normally let a kid who is eight watch a movie where the main plot is about a virgin trying to get into his girlfriend's pants. 

HMM '12 Day 6: The Stuff

It's finally October! That means two very important things: Pumpkin Pie Pop-Tarts are here, and Halloween is near! My favorite thing to do in October to prepare myself for Halloween is to, of course, watch movies that I feel best exemplify the season. Now, this doesn't just mean extreme gore fests (of course, I do love me some gore), but I like to include movies that have that Halloween feel. Anyway, let's get to Day 6 of Halloween Movie Madness 2012!

The Stuff
(New World Pictures, 1985)

I need to warn you that if you don’t like the ‘80s, you probably shouldn't watch this movie.  Watching it is like being punched in the face by the entire decade.  Especially the commercials for The Stuff.  They are full of women wearing fur coats and bathing suits, and men and women wearing tights with leg warmers while dancing and playing basketball.  There is even a commercial in the movie making fun of the old “Where’s the beef?” commercials (with an Abe Vigoda cameo!).
