3 New NES Games & One Special Edition Added to Nintendo Switch Online

Today gave us the first update to the Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Switch Online (that name is ridiculous...let's just stick with NESflix), and three games were added to the service.  There was also a bit of a surprise.

Nintendo had previously announced NES Open, Solomon's Key, and Super Dodge Ball as the titles that were to be added this month, but they also snuck in what they are calling a Special version of The Legend of Zelda.

As you can see below, the Special LoZ kind of just drops you into the game with some equipment you wouldn't normally start out with.

This is basically a New Game Plus save file.  They start you out with all kinds of goodies.

And yes, that Special ribbon hangs out in the corner there the whole time.

This is a good way for people who might find this game too difficult by starting out with nothing.  Nintendo also announced that more Special versions of games are coming in the future.  I am definitely interested to see what is coming next month along with Metroid, Mighty Bomb Jack, and TwinBee.  If I had to guess, I would say a Special version of Metroid is in the works.

Mini NES System Announced - $59.99 This November

Nintendo announced today that they are releasing a new version of the Nintendo Entertainment System: The Mini Collector's Edition NES.  This new NES is almost palm-sized, and comes pre-loaded with thirty classic titles.  And I wouldn't call all of them standard fare either.  Sure, they have Super Mario Bros. 3 and The Legend of Zelda, but this system will also include titles like Final Fantasy, Mega Man 2, and Ninja Gaiden.

The system will have a NES controller that uses the Wii Remote plug (they can be used for Wii and Wii U Virtual Console games), and will hook up to your HDMI port.  The system will sell for $59.99 when it launches this November.  Additional controllers will be available for $9.99 each.

Hit the jump for the full press release, including the list of games that will be included on this system.

Nintendo Direct December 18: Nintendo Insanity Edition

Nintendo had another fantastic Nintendo Direct today.  And while I say fantastic, I also think Nintendo has started to lose their mind.  I mean that in the best possible way, too.

Here is a quick list of things that were announced and shown today:
  • Hyrule Warriors (a.k.a. Dynasty Warriors Zelda, made by Tecmo Koei )
  • Yoshi's Island DLC for Sonic Lost World (available now for free), with Legend of Zelda DLC heavily hinted at
  • NES Remix (like WarioWare for classic NES games)
  • Yoshi's New Island
  • Kirby Triple Deluxe (sounds like a very delicious burger)
  • Chibi-Robo: Photo Finder (on 3DS on January 9)
  • Information on Pokemon Bank and Poke Transfer (like the fact that if you try the service, you get a free Celebi)
  • An outstanding trailer for Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze with Cranky Kong
  • Bravely Default getting a demo on January 2 that counts as a side-story to the main game
  • Golf is now available for Wii Sports Club, and with it, another free 24 hour trial of all three games
  • Dr. Luigi (for the Year of Luigi)

To see some of the insanity for yourself, you can watch the entire Nintendo Direct below.

Capcom Releasing DuckTales and Dungeons & Dragons This Summer!

DuckTales Remastered

The part of my brain that controls how happy I am is currently on overload.  Capcom has announced that they are bringing DuckTales Remastered and the two Dungeons & Dragons arcade games (under the name DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: CHRONICLES OF MYSTARA) to Xbox Live, PlayStation Network, Nintendo eShop, and PCs this summer.

I have always been a fan of all three games, but holy cow, look at the DuckTales game!  It is being made by WayForward and looks completely amazing!

It's like Paper Mario leaked into Disney!

Make sure to check the press release for all of the details!
