Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts: Drugs Are Like That

It's Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts, our new series where the title is almost as long as the actual reviews!  We are going to take a look at a RiffTrax Short every day this year, until we run out of shorts.  That will get us through the majority of the year, so strap in for madness!

(Released June 16, 2008)

This is what could best be described as "an effort" in making a anti-drug Short.  They compare using drugs to taking away a baby's pacifier, a grown man playing a kid's game, and building models with LEGO bricks.

Five Must-Have RiffTrax Shorts

One Saturday, while visiting my Grandma, I found this show on Comedy Central where this guy and two robots were making fun of an old black and white movie.  That show was Mystery Science Theater 3000, and I have been a huge fan ever since. After the show was cancelled, all I could do was exchange VHS copies of episodes with people online.  There was a hole in my heart that could only be filled by cheesy movies that were being riffed.  Imagine how happy I was when I discovered RiffTrax!  My life was whole once again.

With RiffTrax, Mike, Bill, and Kevin have been releasing short films, full length B-movies (in the same vein as MST3K), and audio files that are riffs of current movies being released on DVD, like The Avengers and the Twilight movies (some of the best riffs of all time).  Getting started with RiffTrax can be daunting due to the size of their catalog, so I have decided to make a few lists of my favorite riffs to help get you started.

Let's get things started with five must-have RiffTrax Shorts, and may God have mercy on your soul.

Animated Gif Scrapbook 2: Gif Harder

Last week, I showcased a selection of animated gifs from an old CD that is full of them.  By full, I mean there are two hundred and forty-six gifs on it, and most of them are under 30KB.  So, the disc barely has any of the space filled.

Anyway, instead of going through and posting all of the gifs by category like I had planned, I've decided to just share my favorites from this collection.  So you won't be getting all of the cutting edge gifs from 1995, you'll just be getting the best of the best.  Or worst, if you are a sane person.  Clearly, I am not.

What sane person imagines this thing going "NOMNOMNOM"?

Before I get to the rest of the gifs, I wanted to share the system requirements for this CD.

For an IBM PC:
  • 386 PC
  • 4mb RAM
  • SVGA graphics (256 colors with 640x480)
  • CD-ROM drive
  • mouse
  • Windows 3.1/NT/95 or OS/2
I think my favorite thing about those specs is the fact that it lists the mouse.  And the fact that you can use OS/2.  I had forgotten about OS/2 until I saw it listed on this disc.  I never used OS/2, and the only exposure I ever had to it at all was through ads for OS/2 Warped.
