Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts: Patriotism

It's Short Reviews of RiffTrax Shorts, our new series where the title is almost as long as the actual reviews!  We are going to take a look at a RiffTrax Short almost every day this year, until we run out of shorts.  That will get us through the majority of the year, so strap in for madness!

(Released July 2, 2008)

Planting trees, setting the table, and sharing baseball gloves.  Patriotism is like that.

This short is hosted by Bob Crane, of Hogan's Heroes fame (among other things).  He has one of the greatest lines uttered in any Short: "If we learn to care for others to respect others we'll learn to how care for to respect our country."

I don't actually remember watching this one before.  I probably bought it with twenty other shorts and forgot to watch it.

That made this short a wonderful surprise.  I read the official description for this Short before I watched it, and they mention Bob Crane.  I didn't know what they were referring to, so I looked it up.  I'm glad I did—and not because I feel more complete as a person with the gross knowledge I now posses—because they make a handful of jokes that I wouldn't have gotten the context on.  If you don't know, here is the abridged version: He secretly filmed his sexcapades, supposedly without the women's consent.

Just remember: Everything is Patriotism except for white pants and brownies with walnuts.

Patriotism gets four speeding cars out of five.
