Bottom Shelf Mixology: Black Lagoon

Welcome to Bottom Shelf Mixology!  We have racked our brains (and our livers) to come up with special "bottom shelf" versions of popular drinks, and some original creations that range from "oh, that might be interesting" to "that sounds absolutely disgusting".

It's almost Halloween, and that means it's time for some spooky cocktails!

Black Lagoon (Sea Breeze)
  • 1 1/2 oz Crystal Palace Vodka
  • 2 oz Store Brand Cranberry Juice Cocktail
  • 3 oz Faygo Grape Soda
  • Ice
  • Black Licorice
Put the ice in your glass.  Pour the vodka, cranberry juice cocktail, and grape soda in the glass.  It should turn a nice, dark color.

Stir with a piece of black licorice, leaving it in the glass as a garnish.

Warning: Drinking too many of these may cause delusions of being able to breathe under water.  Please, resist all urges to go swimming.

Bottom Shelf Mixology Episode 21 Season Finale: Tetanus Shot

Welcome to the Bottom Shelf Mixology™ video series!  Our staff of Mixologists have decided it would be a good idea to actually test our special "bottom shelf" recipes.  What have we done?

Well, we've come to the end of the road...

For Season One!

Yes, it's our season finale, and we ended things on a doozy.  We knew this was going to be bad, but we didn't know quite how bad it was going to be!

So watch me, Hammer J, and the Unpaid Intern Eric take our medicine!

Season Two will be here in November, and we've got a few changes coming!  A better camera! A better microphone!  Worse drinks!

Stay tuned!

Red Dead Redemption 2 Teaser Trailer

So far today, we got a trailer for Logan and a trailer for the Nintendo Switch. Both of those were huge trailers, and the hype all over the internet is out of control.

There is one more trailer to be hyped about today, and I think most people forgot about it being released.

It's short, but it looks gorgeous! Now if only Rockstar would put this on the Switch.

First Look at the Nintendo Switch

Now that I've calmed down and cleaned up the pee, let's talk about what we saw in the trailer.

First Logan Trailer Released

I am really digging the tone of this trailer.  It feels completely different than any of the X-Movies Fox has released, and that is a good thing.  The last few movies (The Wolverine, Days of Future Past, Apocalypse) have been middling to me, but this one actually has me excited.

Or maybe it's carryover from the anticipation of that NX Switch Trailer.

Welcome to the Bottom Shelf Mixology™ video series!  Our staff of Mixologists have decided it would be a good idea to actually test our special "bottom shelf" recipes.  What have we done?

Anise and Green Apple.  A wonderful culinary combination.  Something we decided to put our BS spin on!  So, today, we have the ouzo and the pucker.  Mix them together with a bit of lemonade mix and olive oil, and you've got an Anise Pucker.  Sound terrible?  You're right!

Watch me, Unpaid Intern Eric, and our friend Heather drink it!

Opa!

HMM '16: The Dungeonmaster

The leaves are dying, the sky is cloudy, and even more things than usual are pumpkin spice flavored.  That can mean only one thing: It's October!  This year marks the return of Halloween Movie Madness!

The Dungeonmaster/Ragewar (1984)

I've watched this movie countless times over the years thanks to a VHS copy I scored from a closing video store.  Today, we got a package from Amazon, and it turns out that one of the things my wife ordered for me was this movie on DVD! It's part of a four pack from Scream Factory. I've never even heard of the other three movies, but they will most likely find their way into this year's HMM.

When I put the movie in, I noticed something weird.  All my life, I remember the credits starting first thing.  On the DVD, however, we get a cold open.  I was confused, and was telling my wife that I didn't remember any of what we were seeing.  Paul (our hero), was chasing a woman through a bunch of corridors.  When he finally catches up to her, she immediately disrobes.  Completely naked.  I really think I would remember full frontal nudity like that.

Halloween Movie Madness 2016: The Final Girls

The leaves are dying, the sky is cloudy, and even more things than usual are pumpkin spice flavored.  That can mean only one thing: It's October!  This year marks the return of Halloween Movie Madness!

The Final Girls (2015)

Our fourth movie for HMM '16 is one that I discovered through some random list on Imgur.  It sounded interesting from the little blurb that was posted, so I thought I would give it a shot.

I am glad I did, because this movie is an incredible subversion of the Summer Camp Slasher genre.  In The Final Girls, a group of friends is at a theater for a special anniversary screening of Camp Bloodbath, a Summer Camp Slasher movie.

Halloween Movie Madness 2016: The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

The leaves are dying, the sky is cloudy, and even more things than usual are pumpkin spice flavored.  That can mean only one thing: It's October!  This year marks the return of Halloween Movie Madness!

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra (2001)

Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra was released in 2001, but you wouldn't be able to tell that from watching the movie.  This movie is both a loving homage and parody of the cheaply made horror and sci-fi movies of the '50s.  They really hit the nail on the head here, especially with the dialogue.  It is redundant, obvious, and it feels poorly written.  In fact, they did such a good job with the writing that if you didn't know ahead of time what they were going for, you actually would just think it was poorly written.

Here now are six of my favorite moments from The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra.

Bottom Shelf Munchies Episode 12: Spotted Dick Sponge

Welcome to the Bottom Shelf Munchies video series!  Our Bottom Shelf Crew is dumb enough to try out these odd treats just so you don't have to!  What have we done?

Follow along with us as we continue our descent into the world of international snackage!

This week's it's the treat that everyone in England is sick to death of hearing jokes about: Spotted Dick!  And of course, that is why we ate it.  We also had no idea about preparing it in any way, and, well, it wasn't very good because of it.

The moral of the story: Don't eat spotted dick in the can.

Halloween Movie Madness 2016: The Darkest Hour

The leaves are dying, the sky is cloudy, and even more things than usual are pumpkin spice flavored.  That can mean only one thing: It's October!  This year marks the return of Halloween Movie Madness!

The Darkest Hour (2011)

For our second feature, I watched another movie I had never seen before.  This one, however, was released a mere five years ago.

The Darkest Hour is a movie about two app developers traveling to Moscow to sell their app or secure funding or something like that.  The film doesn't do a great job of telling us the exact reason for their trip, just that it was about their app.

Halloween Movie Madness 2016: THEM

The leaves are dying, the sky is cloudy, and even more things than usual are pumpkin spice flavored.  That can mean only one thing: It's October!  This year marks the return of Halloween Movie Madness!

THEM (1954)

I figured I would start this year's Halloween Movie Madness off with something that I had never seen, and what better way to do that then with a movie that was made over 20 years before I was born.

THEM is a movie that stars Marshall Matt Dillon (James Arness), Mark Twain (James Whitmore), and Santa Claus (Edmund Gwenn) facing off against giant, mutated, radioactive ants in New Mexico and Los Angeles.
